The Lead
Constellation Brands has acquired SpikedAde, a move Just Drinks describes as perhaps the company's most notable piece of M&A in around a decade. The deal comes against a stagnant US beer market.
Moët Hennessy, LVMH's wine and spirits division, said sales in the three months to the end of September rose 6% to EUR1.43bn ($1.6bn), its third consecutive quarterly lift after +5% in each of the first two quarters of calendar 2026, leaving year-to-date sales at +5%, or EUR4.03bn ($4.51bn). Over the first nine months, the combined cognac and spirits operations led by namesake Hennessy climbed 4%, while champagne and wines together rose 6%, with champagne described as "solid" and the Provence rosé stable's momentum as "good." Hennessy was credited with a "positive" showing in China and backed in the US by the June launch of its Hennessy Very Special Cocktails ready-to-serve line. In late July, Moët Hennessy exited the SirDavis American whiskey venture it set up with Beyoncé Knowles-Carter in 2022, transferring the brand to the singer's ownership with no financial terms disclosed.
Treasury Wine Estates sells Rosemount, Ingoldby and Secret Stone to A.G. Oatley Wines
Treasury Wine Estates has agreed to sell its Rosemount, Ingoldby and Secret Stone brands to A.G. Oatley Wines, with closing expected by 23 October. The sale follows TWE's divestment of Seppelt, Rouge Homme and Tollana earlier this year, part of a plan to narrow the portfolio from 76 brands down to 30 priority global and regional labels. TWE classified the three as "non-priority assets" and intends to focus on power brands such as Penfolds, DAOU and Matua, plus regional names including Wynns, Pepperjack and Squealing Pig. A.G. Oatley Wines originally founded Rosemount in 1969, and owner Sandy Oatley said he spent 20 years building the brand alongside his father.
The Briefing
Treasury Wine Estates is selling Rosemount, Ingoldby and Secret Stone to Australia's AG Oatley Wines for an undisclosed sum, with the deal expected to close at the end of next week; Treasury will keep responsibility for Rosemount's sales in Europe for up to three years. The Penfolds owner is working to cut its portfolio from 76 brands to fewer than 30, and the sale follows last month's divestment of sparkling specialist Seppelt. Drinks Intel

Unite has escalated its strike at Diageo's Cameronbridge distillery in Fife to cover all workers, continuing stoppages that began on 28 September over compulsory redundancies and what the union calls "inadequate" health and safety assessments. Diageo says it intends to remove up to 10 roles (eight employees affected, with two vacancies) as it maintains reduced production, and does not expect any disruption to product availability. A Proximo spokesperson said the venue is shut "until further notice," with Great Jones Whiskey and Black Dirt Distillery products remaining available online and at select retailers. On-premise volumes in Europe dropped across the board in 2025, with spirits down 4%, beer 5% and wine 6% year on year, per IWSR, and eight of the ten largest spirits markets declining. Early 2026 signs are mixed: the pace of closures slowed in France and eastern markets grew (Croatian hospitality revenue up 6.5% in the first seven months), while premium spirits outperformed their total categories in nine of the ten largest, and Campari holds nearly 90% of UK spritz serves. Wholesale prices for beer, wine, and spirits have risen about 32 percent since January 2021 while hourly labor at drinking places climbed roughly 19 percent between 2021 and 2025, per the Bureau of Labor Statistics, and experts told SevenFifty Daily that operators should price cocktails against prime cost, including prep and bartender labor, rather than ingredient pour cost alone. Aidan Wren of Mile High Mixologists said target ingredient cost, once around 20 percent, should now sit closer to 15 percent, and operators cited tactics like tiered upcharges, trimmed backbars built around roughly 10 volume-driving cocktails, and menu placement that steers guests to higher-margin drinks. The Rajasthan State Pollution Control Board revoked Carlsberg India's consent to operate its Alwar brewery, citing particulate emissions nearly eight times the permitted limit and the site transmitting only 35.12% of required monitoring data against an 85% threshold, and ordered the local utility to cut power. The closure, which followed a July inspection by India's central pollution authority, comes as Carlsberg prepares a roughly $700m IPO of its Indian arm. Just Drinks
