Diageo closing its Baltimore Guinness Open Gate Brewery
Diageo will close the Guinness Open Gate Brewery in Baltimore, one of four such sites worldwide, citing "a careful review of our operations and long-term business priorities." The site, opened in 2018, closes to visitors on 1 November, with operations winding down by the end of the calendar year; it does not produce Guinness stout but has made over 700 limited-edition beers. The remaining Open Gate sites are in Chicago, London, and the flagship in Dublin. The closure follows Diageo's fiscal 2026 results, reported in August, which showed brewery division sales up 4.4% in North America and Guinness up 12% globally, and an August capital markets day plan to spend "just under" $1bn to double Guinness production by 2029.
